UMI MADE TEACHER AND PARTY RESOURCES
August 9, 2013

So, I love creating my own materials for parties and the classroom.  I am trying my hand at making resources that look like those made on TeacherPayTeachers or Teachers Notebook, before I actually set up an account.  I have no idea how those teachers keep up with actual teaching and creating such fantastic resources.  Anyway, I don't know how much I will be able to crank out over the course of the school year, but I'm going to give it a try.  I would love some feedback, so I will offer my first couple of products for free downloads.  I'm beginning with classroom decor.

Here's a snapshot of my first product:

I am going with a Superhero theme with a twist this year!

WORKING WITH WORDS USING THE FRAYER MODEL

So, I've been trying to improve upon my vocabulary instruction.  One neat graphic organizer is the Frayer Model.  I love this strategy/organizer for several reasons, but what ranks at the top of the list is that it can be used across content areas.  It also can serve as an assessment tool into the minds of our budding scholars to see if they truly have grasped the meaning of the word.  It helps with differentiation and targeting those visual and linguistic learners.

My issue is that it seemed like such a waste of paper.  The organizer takes up the entire page and even if you made double-sided copies you would end up using a whole lot of paper depending on the amount of words you focus on per week or per lesson.

So, I was doing my normal teacher-sleuthing and came across a website (that I forget to bookmark) that used the model in an interactive math notebook.  The teacher had somehow created the lovely Frayer Model on half-sheets.  Oh yeah...right up my alley!

I can't take credit for this idea, but I did create one my own.  You want one too....CLICK HERE!

Hope this helps with taking your vocabulary instruction to the next level!
